I love reading your updates, and look forward to the next one. I want to pledge my support, and will look into doing that. The OCT sounds very civilized, unlike the Sierra. Be careful out there and enjoy every trail moment!
Barkley was named Berkeley for the first 2.5 years of his life. Once I adopted him from The PNW Vizsla rescue in August 2017, I changed his name to Barkley to give him a fresh start, with out confusing him too much as the names are very similar.
William mad Barkley.
PS. We hiked the OCT for the third time this past end of summer.
The feet, for course. Makes sense. Poor feet. I love that Jim maintains he could smell water from afar...that is so Jim. I hope you can at least smell bears from afar...if you're downwind from them.
Pudding & KarMMA, I continue to enjoy your narratives...very engaging, educational and even funny. ;-) I love how Barkley the dog was introduced in this last post...it makes complete sense that there is a whole PCT dog culture out there. Curious, I have heard PCT stories of peoples' bodies changing as a result of the rigor...have you lost a lot of weight? KarMMA does not have to answer that question.
Thanks! Our feet look different -- lots of blood vessels showing. I do think our bodies have adapted a little. Some of the foot pain has plateaued and sometimes our feet actually feel a little better. I have lost seven pounds-- consistent both at the beginning and end of the OCT, and Kristen hasn't lost any. Go figure. Jim Kean maintains he developed a better sense of smell over six months on the PCT-- he could smell water from afar -- and I smell a little evidence of that. Jim felt his feet adapted, too.
Congratulations on finishing the OCT, sounds like an awesome experience just on it’s own. 👏🍾🎉It’s now on Susanne and my hiking to do list. Wishing you all all the best for the PCT. Would love to join you again, need a little time
Loved catching up with this fun and exciting update! You two remain two of my fav thru-hikers to walk through MVR's gates. I'm hoping for some SOBO's for Thanksgiving! Sending lots of love! Chery (aka Mountain Mama)
Happy Father's Day Gib and congratulations on finishing OCT & 1,000 miles !
Thanks! You, too!

another great adventure. I assume "Barkely" was named after the Barkely ulltramarthon, toughest race on earth

Will ask William!
